College Essay 1

2. Imagine that you have the opportunity to travel back through time. At what point in history would you like to stop and why?

The future is full of history. In this day and age, we see new things happen everyday. We witness and hear history being made all the time. It is hard to learn about what happened in the past because we do not fully understand what society was like back then, or just generally how things were. We cannot relate to that day and age. We remember and know of things in our age because it happens right before our eyes. Every historical thing we learn about would be a lot more interesting and easy to remember if we were right there when it happened.

We are lucky that many historical events were recorded and passed down. This way we learn about things that happened years ago. The downside to this is that we do not know if the facts of the events are accurate. The writer could have been biased, exaggerated, or he could have even lied. Sadly, we have to decide whether we believe it or not. Some facts are hard to believe, but when some events enter the history books we have to learn and know about them. This interests me because I do not know whether what I am learning about is true to the letter, or is manipulated to manipulate the reader. Most of the time, it is curiosity that makes me dig deeper. It pushes me to learn more and more about an event, fact, story, or just anything.

Most of the historical facts we have today, come from things that were written or recorded at that time. There is no solid fact. There is nothing as solid as being there yourself, experiencing the event first hand. I want to go back to 32 AD simply because I know nothing about what happened.
