Slow Dancing in a Burning is a song with a lot of soul. The chord progression of the song is very simple, but when John Mayer starts to play his guitar and express himself through his six-string, it becomes a whole lot more than simple chords. Mayer hardly performs his songs the same way because he plays with feeling, and pours out his emotion through his lyrics and chords. He sings about how "this is the deep and dying breath of this love that we've been working on," and the same feelings they used to have do not exist anymore. If he and his lover stayed together, then they would just be "slow dancing in a burning room." He sings with sadness with sadness as he tells his lover that their relationship is not going to work.
